Expert content and an online shop on a single platform: zdrowie.pl

The implementation was designed in collaboration with the zdrowie.pl development and design team. See how the new solution has given the zdrowie.pl team complete autonomy in managing the shop’s content, without needing to involve a developer for every change.

About the Project

The zdrowie.pl team approached BeeCommerce with a clearly defined requirement: they wanted a platform where the blog, podcasts and expert recommendations would not be an add-on to the shop, but an integral part of it, and where the marketing team could manage this content independently, without having to involve a developer every time the page layout was changed or a new article published.

Together with the development and design team at zdrowie.pl, we designed a platform based on a headless architecture, in which the shop and the content operate as two independent but closely linked systems. The editorial team publishes and edits content independently in Storyblok, with a live preview of changes, whilst the product pages link this content to live product data from the Shopify shop, including the legally required price history in accordance with the Omnibus Directive. This expert knowledge is complemented by podcasts, audio content and product reviews, which help build customer trust even before a purchase decision is made.

Zdrowie.pl is a new e-commerce platform specialising in the sale of dietary supplements, vitamins and wellness products, operating as a curated marketplace.

The platform stands out thanks to its proprietary Quality Standard – a product assessment system based on clearly defined criteria, designed to ensure that users have access only to tried-and-tested, verified brands.

  • Selection — products assessed according to our proprietary Quality Standard

  • Quality — expert verification of ingredients and effectiveness

  • Knowledge in a nutshell — educational content supporting informed choices and healthy habits

The Business Challenge

In a typical supplements shop, expert knowledge and the product range exist in isolation: the blog does not lead to a purchase, whilst the catalogue does not explain why a particular product is worth buying. Zdrowie.pl wanted to change this by combining the two within a single platform.

The main business objective was to create an architecture in which the Zdrowie.pl team could independently manage both the expert content and the shop’s product range, without having to involve a developer for every change. The project faced several obstacles:

Content and sales are systematically separated, but linked at the presentation level

The editorial team needed the freedom to create and publish content, whilst ensuring that this content remained closely linked to the live product catalogue, prices and availability.

A wide range of expert knowledge in one place

A blog wasn’t enough: the platform was also intended to support video, podcasts and audio formats, various aspect ratios and content sizes, and the delivery of content via numerous integrations, such as with Vimeo or Elevenlabs.

Compliance with the Omnibus Directive

As an online shop operating within the EU, zdrowie.pl was required to display the lowest price of a product over the last 30 days whenever a price reduction took place, which necessitated the implementation of this mechanism within the price display system.

A shared code, a shared responsibility

Some of the front-end code was developed by the client’s team, which required shared standards, code reviews and ongoing coordination to ensure the architecture remained consistent.

The collaboration between two project teams

The different working methods and design principles meant we had to find a common direction and ensure the coherence of the entire system. The challenge was to combine both perspectives into a single, coherent design, without compromising on the original principles and whilst taking into account the development requirements.

Project Goals

01

Separate content from sales without losing the integration between them.
Build a headless architecture in which the CMS and the online shop operate as two independent systems, but the product catalogue pages bring them together into a single, cohesive customer experience.

02

Give the zdrowie.pl team complete autonomy over content publication.
Configure the CMS with a live preview of changes and a library of ready-made blocks, so that the zdrowie.pl team can create and edit pages without needing a developer’s involvement for every change.

03

Combine different formats of expert knowledge into a single, cohesive offering
Integrate the blog, podcasts and AI-generated audio as native elements of the platform, rather than as separate, tacked-on tools.

04

Ensure compliance with the Omnibus Directive from the outset.
Build the display of the lowest price over the past 30 days into the product layer, rather than treating it as a post-implementation fix.

Solutions and Implementation

Content and sales in one place: hybrid product catalogue pages

Together with the zdrowie.pl team, we designed catalogue pages that combine editorial content with live product data from the shop. Instead of a separate blog and a separate catalogue, the customer sees a single page where an expert’s description is displayed alongside specific product offers, availability and prices retrieved directly from Shopify.

A CMS without the need for a developer: Storyblok’s block architecture

We have built a library of around 15 universal content blocks and a further 15 blocks dedicated to the blog, based on four content types: page, article, product page and author profile. The structure is so clear that the zdrowie.pl editorial team can build pages from it independently, without having to think about which block fits where, whilst the built-in live preview allows them to see the effect of changes before they go live, without having to wait for a developer. The architecture has been designed so that the zdrowie.pl IT team can continue to develop it: adding new components and expanding the block library without having to rebuild the foundations, just as they did whilst working collaboratively on the code during the implementation phase.

Omnibus compliance built into the pricing layer

Rather than treating the requirements of the Omnibus Directive as a post-implementation amendment, we have built the display of the lowest price from the last 30 days directly into the product layer. Every product and catalogue page shows this history automatically, without the team having to carry out manual work every time the price list is updated.

Headless architecture: Shopify Hydrogen and Storyblok

Behind the simplicity of the interface lies a headless architecture, which separates the content layer from the sales logic:

Shopify manages the product catalogue, prices, availability and orders, whilst the Shopify Storefront API provides the front-end with real-time product data.

Storyblok: an intuitive and secure CMS

The editorial team manages content, blocks and page structure independently of the front-end code, without needing to involve developers every time something is published.

The whole thing is brought together by Shopify Hydrogen, a frontend built using Remix and React, hosted on Shopify Oxygen, and based on a shared UI component system and Tailwind CSS.

From Figma to ready-to-use code: a consistent and scalable design system

We carried out a comprehensive handover to the development team, organising the components and eliminating unnecessary variants and duplicate elements. We focused on creating a consistent and scalable structure that allows for the maximum use of existing components across subsequent blocks and views. As a result, the solutions designed in Figma could be effectively mapped to Storyblok and reused across the entire website.

A wide range of expert knowledge formats in one place

The blog is one of several ways to access expert content on zdrowie.pl. The podcast player and AI-generated audio allow you to listen to the content rather than read it, whilst product review and rating widgets help build customer trust even before a purchase decision is made.

Summary

The implementation of the platform for zdrowie.pl brings together two worlds that usually operate separately in e-commerce: a supplements shop and an expert knowledge portal. The headless architecture based on Shopify Hydrogen and Storyblok, independent content publication via the CMS, and the integration of podcasts, AI-generated audio and reviews create value that goes beyond that of a standard online shop.

Zdrowie.pl now has a platform that the team develops independently and which is ready for further content formats and new shop features, without the need to rebuild its foundations. For the brand, this means that the promise made to the customer – reliable knowledge leading to the right choice – is embedded in the very functioning of the platform, and not just in its content.
